From Food52, To You
We crafted Host & Toast with our friends at Food52, and their visionary founder and former New York Times Food Editor, Amanda Hesser. Our goal was to develop a flavor that would be the talk of the table. Add it to yours and let the good times flow.
To Mix, Then Mingle
Spiced Apple Cider NA Shandy
• 1 ½ cups apple cider
• 1 whole orange cut in quarters, divided
• 4-6 whole cloves
• 2 cinnamon sticks
• 1 12 oz can Athletic Brewing x Food52 Host & Toast NA Beer
• 2-4 dashes NA orange bitters
• Lemon slices for garnish (optional!)
In a small pot add the apple cider, two of the orange quarters, with the cloves stuck in their skin side, and the cinnamon sticks. Bring to a steady simmer over medium heat for around 10-15 minutes until slightly reduced in volume and flavors have melded.
Strain into a clean vessel, or remove the orange pieces and cinnamon sticks and set the pot aside to cool completely to room temperature. You should have about one cup of cider. Cider can be mulled several days in advance and kept cold in the fridge until ready to proceed.
Fill two tall glasses with ice and divide the cider (4 oz each) between the two glasses. Top each with half a can of Host & Toast NA Beer and a dash or two of bitters. Garnish with the lemon slices. Enjoy immediately.
To Twist Things Up
Lemon Ginger NA Spritz
• 1 whole lemon, washed and dried
• 1 cup sugar
• Pinch of kosher salt
• 2 cans Athletic Brewing x Food52 Host & Toast NA Beer
• 2 tablespoons ginger juice or store-bought “ginger shot”
Cut the lemon into paper-thin slices and remove as many seeds as possible. Add the sliced lemon to a bowl, add the sugar and kosher salt, and toss everything together thoroughly. Cover the mixture and let it sit 4 hours or overnight until a thick syrup is formed and the lemons have softened.
The next day add 1 tablespoon of the lemon syrup to the bottom of two tall pint glasses, making sure to scoop up some of the pieces of lemon. Muddle the lemon in the bottom of the glass with the back of a wooden spoon or muddler.
Fill the glass halfway up with ice and top with Host & Toast NA Beer. Give the pint glass a quick stir and float the ginger shot on top. Enjoy immediately.
