It may be a challenge to try going dry in January, but taking it on might even inspire you to achieve some other goals.
Some of the most popular ones that tend to cross our minds are being more active, more mindful, and more adventurous.
Truthfully, it can be difficult to take on more than one thing at a time.
Our sponsored Athletes are sharing some pro tips that make tackling these popular goals easy.
Goal: Be More Active
Are you ready to step up your game and be more active in 2024? This is your year to give it your all. Getting started doesn’t have to be hard. Elise Young, personal trainer and group fitness instructor has just the tips to get you moving.
Tip 1: Get creative with your workouts and have some fun with them, for example, use 6-packs of Athletic brews for weights!
Tip 2: Get outside for fresh air, sunshine and a good walk. This will not only have you getting steps in but who doesn't love getting outside?!
Goal: Be More Mindful
Being mindful can be a challenge in anyone’s busy life. Luckily, Brian Mazza, who is an elite athlete and serial entrepreneur who dedicated his life to constantly improving both his fitness and as a husband and father, shares some great tips to help you get started. Here’s his take on mindfulness and recovery in 2024. "I feel like many people are to buying into group recovery, and are looking for communities for Sauna & Cold Therapy. People aren’t doing their basic vacations anymore, they are searching for wellness experiences."
Tip 1: Practicing breathwork - Inhale. Hold. Exhale. Hold. Repeat.
Tip 2: Focusing on becoming more present - There are countless ways you can start focusing on becoming more present. A good place to start is whenever you have downtime, instead of burying your head in a phone - try journaling or, if you’re out in public, people-watching.
Tip 3: Try going for a walk or working out with friends- A great way to stay on top of any goal is doing it with people who hold you accountable. Be more mindful in your workouts by having a friend join you.
Goal: Be More Adventurous
Maybe being a little more adventurous is what you’re truly seeking for the new year. Dani Reyes-Acosta is a snowboarder, climber, cultivator, and storyteller who suggests trying the following to get more adventure in your life: “Try new foods, start, small, find a hobby, plan a getaway, learn something new, or change up your routine. Every day can be an adventure, when you shift expectations for how you'll spend your time.
Tip 1: Start small! Looking for a small way to embrace your inner adventurer? Try going somewhere totally new (a park, a new restaurant, or a new part of town) without your cell phone. You might be surprised at what happens!
Tip 2: Try New Foods - A great way to get in touch with your adventurous side is by trying new foods from other cultures. Head out to an unknown spot in town to tickle your taste buds!
Tip 3: Find a Hobby - Hobbies are a great way to challenge yourself and make some new friends. Even if you don’t settle into any one particular hobby, just the act of trying a few out is a great way to get some adventure in your life. "Learning something new is also a beautiful way to help you build new habits," says Reyes-Acosta.
Tip 4: Plan a Getaway - Heading out on a road trip or jet-setting somewhere entirely new is not only exciting; it can help you appreciate the world around you. Go by yourself, or see if you can get some friends to tag along. "I love going for impromptu adventures on unknown gravel roads: even just a half-hour break from routine in an unexpected location has helped me find a little more of my wild," shares Reyes-Acosta.
Tip 5: Learn Something New - Have you always wanted to learn how to rollerblade? Nothing is stopping you. Take some time to learn something you’ve always meant to put time towards but haven’t. You won’t regret it.
Tip 6: Change Up Your Routine - Sometimes, something as simple as changing your routine is all you need to feel refreshed and more adventurous. Perhaps that means riding your bike to work instead of driving or trying out one of Athletic’s new brews versus having your favorite go-to. "Bonus: carry your Athletic brew in your pack for a refreshing beverage upon arrival," says Reyes-Acosta.
