From growing up in Alaska and living across the globe to tackling ultramarathons and IRONMANs, Yves Chandonnet Fox’s life has been defined by adventure, curiosity, and community. Having recently relocated to Boulder, Colorado, Yves brings a unique blend of endurance, culinary passion, and a deep dedication to long-term health to the Athletic Ambassador Community.
In this October Spotlight, Yves shares his journey from Costa Rica to Colorado, his favorite race-day memories, his first experience on Team Athletic, his go-to game-day recipe, and what he’s looking forward to on the slopes this winter!
You have a pretty unique personal background - how did your journey lead you to Boulder?
My life truly has been an adventure! I was born in Costa Rica, grew up in Alaska, lived in Seattle for 10 years, and then went to college in Florida to study athletic training and sports medicine. While working in Miami, I met my wife, and we eventually moved to Costa Rica for 15 years so our daughter could grow up attending their school system. Once my daughter moved to Colorado for college, we missed her so much that, after I completed IRONMAN 70.3 Boulder, we decided it was time for our next chapter. We moved to Boulder permanently three months ago!

Outside of racing and endurance sports, what are some fun facts or passions people might not know about you?
A lot of people don’t know that I used to be a chef. My love and passion for hospitality and cooking has been a huge part of my life. Beyond meal prepping for my health, I love bringing people together over a good meal. One of my favorite football game-day recipes is my signature mojito chicken wings. They have a caramelized mint and lime sauce that is delicious. I just really enjoy making people happy, and food is one of my favorite ways to do it!
How long have you been an Athletic Ambassador, and what made you want to join?
I joined the Athletic Ambassador program earlier this year!
My path to Athletic Brewing started when I decided to step away from alcohol. After trying Athletic, I was instantly hooked. I finally found something that gave me the satisfaction of enjoying a great drink after a workout or while watching a football game, without any of the tradeoffs. When I saw that Athletic had an ambassador program, I jumped at the chance to be a part of it.
Beyond the quality of the brews, what really drew me, and keeps me excited, is the incredible, like-minded community of people sharing their personal stories and supporting an active lifestyle.

You were recently a part of Team Athletic in Boulder, Colorado. What was that experience like for you?
Having just moved to Boulder three months ago with my wife, joining the Team Athletic event was an amazing experience. I got to go on a shakeout run with veteran ambassadors, connect with the team, and rock some top-tier and stylish gear.
For me, the biggest highlight was the sense of connection. Going back to my interest in longevity - community is a primary key to a long, healthy life. I probably interacted and connected with more people during that single weekend than I had in my entire first three months living in Boulder. It felt wonderful to meet fellow ambassadors and represent a brand that truly reflects who I am.
Do you have an adventure that you have experienced that sticks out?
Over the years I’ve tackled everything from 50k and 85k ultra trail runs to multiple triathlons, but IRONMAN 70.3 Italy in Emilia-Romagna back in 2022 is the adventure that stands out above the rest.
My wife actually found the race and suggested turning it into a family trip. It was perfect: The first few days were focused on race prep, and as soon as I finished, the rest of the trip was focused on family. Cycling through the Italian countryside past vineyards and lakes filled with pink flamingos felt like being in a movie. Afterward, we spent two weeks exploring together—visiting wineries, traditional Parmesan cheese factories, museums, and Lake Como. It’s easily one of my favorite lifetime memories.

What is your overall mindset when it comes to fitness, racing, and staying active at this stage in your life?
At 54, my mindset around fitness has really shifted toward longevity and long-term health. I used to feel like I always needed a race on my calendar to stay motivated, but now I view life itself as the ultimate race. My goal in the gym isn’t just about the next finish line. It’s about building a foundation so I can be just as healthy, active, and happy in my 70s and 80s as I am today.

What is something you are looking forward to later this year and into 2027?
Looking ahead, I am beyond excited for the winter ski and snowboard season. I grew up doing winter sports in Alaska, and after living in Costa Rica for 15 years, I cannot wait to get my board out on the Colorado powder. My wife and I also just celebrated our 20th anniversary, so I surprised her with a weekend ski trip and booked her professional ski lessons so we can enjoy the mountains together.
I am also really looking forward to Thanksgiving this year! I have a culinary background and love to cook, so after 15 years abroad, I’m thrilled to host a proper Thanksgiving feast for my family, including making my favorite side, stuffing!
Lastly, I’m keeping an eye on potential 2027 Team Athletic event locations, like IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside, so I can represent Athletic on the road again!
What is your favorite Athletic Brew?
During the warmer months, my go-to after a workout or a 100-degree summer day in Boulder is Ripe Pursuit! It has been one of my favorites and my wife even loved it!
