How did you hear about Athletic Brewing?
A friend told me about it during the quarantine era of the pandemic. I had gotten sober literally six months before the world shut down.
You could order it online because it’s non-alcoholic – so I was like, that’s cool, I might as well order it and see how it is.
I really enjoy it, so I started searching around on the website, and that’s how I found the ambassador program.

What made you decide to join the ambassador community?
The beer itself is delicious, so I was really excited about having a product that I was into. Also Athletic’s former motto of “Brew Without Compromise” stuck with me, especially being holed up during the pandemic, trying to stay active and mentally strong during a really difficult time for all of us.
It was super appealing to have a new community to be a part of, focused on healthier alternatives and a different outlook.
I've been doing so many different popups and tastings at different gyms and at different events. I've developed a good partnership with people all over Austin, like the wonderful folks over at Bike Texas! This will be my third spring doing a tasting at the Austin Cargo Bike Festival.
It's allowed me to put myself out there a lot more to collaborate in so many different ways. That’s been a really cool part of being an ambassador.

What’s your favorite way to stay active?
I switch it up a lot because I have a really short attention span, but I’ve always gone back to yoga. That’s always been a staple throughout my athletic career.
Secondary activities I love are heavy weightlifting, HIIT-style tabata classes … I love spin class!
And I also love hiking when I can get out – hiking, backpacking, camping. We just went to the Grand Canyon for Christmas and hiked that. We need to do that every year. It was amazing!

What’s your favorite thing about the place you live?
Austin is a really interesting city. There is a lot of access to outdoor stuff, and there’s such a vibrant fitness community here.
I’ve been in Austin for almost 10 years now, and something like 90 percent of the new friends that I’ve made have been through different gyms or sporting events or some sort of connection that way. I really like that.
In Texas, it’s hard to get out to certain places – it’s a seven-hour drive to Big Bend National Park – but there are a lot of really cool things within the state.

How do you live a #FitForAllTimes lifestyle?
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found more balance in my fitness. It’s less prescriptive and more of what feels good for my body, which is why I switch back and forth between different modes of fitness that I enjoy.
But I also find just as much benefit in having rest days and do-nothing days, which is something that I can’t imagine my younger self being able to handle.
Being fit for all times means having a wide range of things that make you mentally and physically strong, whether that’s reading, hanging out with the cats, going for a hike, or taking a nap at 4 p.m. I think those are all things that keep me sane and fit.
